JOB SHADOWING (ENGISH VERSION)

13-19 MAY 2024
ZAKLAGNA SKOLA ULICA VAJANSKEHO LUCENEC SLOVAKIA

The job shadowing action took place in the same week as the mobility of students and teachers at the school Zaklagna Skola Ulika Vajanskeho in Lucenec, Slovakia as part of the collaboration entitled " On the Road to a Sustainable Future"
On Monday after the welcoming ceremony and while the students they were busy with the workshops, Ms. Pelagia Saltamara attended an English and chemistry class.

I was impressed by the cushions the children had on their chairs as well as the slippers everyone was wearing.

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday on the bus routes we had the opportunity to discuss with different colleagues each time who accompanied us, about the Slovak education system, the salary, the school administration, the cleanliness of the school and the city.
On Thursday evening we all attended the school's cultural event together. Dance and song. The Slovak colleagues made sure that the texts that prefaced each appearance were in two languages, Slovak and English, so that they could be understood by us guests. Finally, the school has many Roma children who presented an impressive dance and were applauded. They explained to us that the majority of them do not love reading and learning, but through their inclusion in the cultural event, let's not forget that dancing and singing are in their blood, they feel equal members of the school and proud of their participation.
On Friday, May 17, while the children were doing the poster activities, job shadowing was in progress. The first lesson of that day was in the computer lab where 7 children of the 4th grade had a French lesson. By first writing   the spelling on the board, the teacher taught them how to close a verb and a noun, with the help of a student. Then the children were divided into two groups, she gave them two paper dolls and a box of paper clothes and accessories to dress up their dolls. At the same time one student from each group wrote a paragraph about what their doll was like which they read at the endout loud. They also asked the Job shadowing colleague   to choose which of the dolls she liked best.

In the second hour of that day,   job shadowing took place inthe geometry lesson for 20 second high school students. The student, with the help of the geometric instruments and the data of an exercise, formed a parallelogram. The students did the same in their notebooks. An impression was made by
the board which was a whiteboard and above it had like shutters the blackboard which fluctuated according to   the height of the student or the teacher.
At the end, the teacher gave all the children  a bag with 7 shapes and we had to put them together like a puzzle to make a shape, the well-known tangram.
Both courses were concluded with a very good practice in which students experientially recognize the importance of the lesson.

 18-22 MARCH 2024
IES PADRE MORET - IRUBIDE PAMPLONA SPAIN

The job shadowing action took place in the same week as the student and teacher mobility at the IES Padre Moret-Irubide school in Pamplona, Spain  as part of the collaboration entitled " On the Road to a Sustainable Future"

On the first two days 18-19/3/2024 Ms. Lazaridou followed the group's program. On Wednesday, March 20, however, he remained at school to attend classes. He did not miss the opportunity to teach in a room with full electronic equipment.

She also attended an ancient Greek course and was even given the opportunity to teach a small unit in ancient Greek.
The students excitedly show her their dictionaries.

She describes: " The experience of job shadowing was useful. We went to a school in Pamplona in Spain. The school was of all levels and classes. We came into contact and cooperation with high school children.

Initially, I entered the ancient Greek class. 8 children, all girls, in a room like ours, proudly showed me their dictionary. The Spanish colleague - sweet and shy - to our credit gave us a lesson on Spanish words that come from Greek. The atmosphere was great. Traditional blackboard and interactive were used. In the end I also participated, finding other words and introducing Thessaloniki.
About the same thing happened with the English class. The teacher taught a lesson, presenting Greece. We talked about our education systems and the options kids have after High School.
Remarkably, the existence of interactive boards everywhere, the many immigrant children and some schoolgirls
with a headscarf."

During the break she was given the opportunity to visit the adjacent art room together with the attendants. The Greek language everywhere!

A student was sitting in the room and was drawing for the school's compost bin. She herself showed us her paintings.

Another student and her teacher were discussing topics for the upcoming architecture exams. We saw some materials like dies that they use as well as student projects.

On Friday, Ms. Lazaridou joined the English and math class. The math unit was on the Pythagorean theorem. Ms. Lazaridou, inspired by this, spoke to the children about Pythagoras, his life, his studies, his values. At the end, the children enthusiastically applauded her.

Also, Ms. Lazaridou together with the two companions attended a Physical Education course. The facilities are excellent!

Outdoor courts.

Inside there was a double gym with weights, a plinth and a warehouse with enough sports equipment.

Unfortunately, the majority of Greek schools lack facilities and sports equipment!

Then the teacher F.A. he filled a supermarket cart with volleyballs, took the net and we all headed to the gym next door which was quite high-ceilinged suitable for their local sport which he introduced to us with one of his students. It was a lot like wall tennis.
The volleyball lesson was conducted as it is always done in the F.A. lesson. in an experiential way and exercises similar to those applied by our Physical Education teachers in Greece. The difference was in the facilities and equipment. The level of the students is more or less the same as that of the Greeks.

18-22 MARCH 2024
LICEO SCIENTIFICO STATALE G.PEANO MONTEROTONDO ITALY

On March 18-22, 2024, the teacher, Anna Siopi, from GEL Hortiatis, as part of the main action Erasmus Accreditation, participated in the job shadowing action . This action was parallel to the mobility of students and teachers in the same school with the title " Interacting in a Sustainable School ".

She writes:

"I took courses in Italian language and literature, Latin and English.

Students were not divided into fixed classes, but moved to different rooms, depending on the courses they had to attend. The movement of children from room to room took place during a five-minute break between lessons, as there were only two long breaks during the day.

In all the classrooms there were interactive boards and the registration of absences was done electronically by the teachers.

Next to the door of each room, on an inner wall hung a collapsible polycase, where in each recess the students left their deactivated cell phones, to be picked up after the end of each teaching hour.

I attended an hour-long oral examination of students in the Italian language and literature course, during which the teacher tested the performance of five students by asking them questions on predetermined taught material. During the process the rest of the students were very quiet and completely silent, to facilitate their classmates, while the examinees responded seriously to the demands of the occasion.

The Latin lesson was done with a teacher-centered method, as the teacher read and explained the section under analysis piece by piece, giving the children the opportunity to express their questions.

The attendance of the English course took place in the classes of two different teachers. One made good use of the possibilities of technology, utilizing some videos from youtube , to show the students various scenes from Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet". The other applied a form of the flipped classroom method, as two students she selected were examined orally by the rest of the students.

In no lesson were students given worksheets to complete, no group activities were implemented, and no written homework was presented by students.

Ms. Siopi discussed with the Italian colleagues about the organization of the school and the Erasmus programs.

The information he received: " The school had an organized secretariat with two employees, an elevator, a relaxation area, to keep the students busy when, due to adverse weather conditions, they do not wish to go out into the courtyard (e.g. board games, chess, extracurricular books) and a large canteen with a wide variety of dishes and benefits for the students. Also attended the Soap making workshop, in the Chemistry course.

 13-17 NOVEMBER 2023
IES MIGUEL ROMERO ESTEO MALAGA SPAIN

On November 13-17, 2023, the teachers, Dimitra Dombrou and Ioanna Karatassiou, from GEL Hortiatis, as part of the main action Erasmus Accreditation , participated in Job Shadowing . Specifically, they attended Latin, English and Literature courses. The equipment of each classroom with interactive whiteboards and computers made a special impression.

However, we singled out the Literature course in which the teacher in charge chose to deliver the poem as a dramatization. The final result was particularly impressive and attractive not only to the students but also to the visiting professors.
