3rd mobility Hortiatis 22-26 April 2024

The first arrival was of the Italian team on Saturday, April 20, 2024 in the morning. The students' families and teachers eagerly awaited their guests at the airport.

The
Italian teachers, after settling in their rooms, followed us for coffee with a view of the city of Thessaloniki.

On Sunday late at night, the Spanish team also arrived.

Monday, April 22, 2024

On Monday at 8.15 we all gathered in the school yard for the morning pray. The hosting program followed the school timetable.

The reception was opened by one of the coordinators of the program who gave the floor to the students of the music ensemble.

Thus, the welcoming ceremony began with Greek music, singing and dancing by the students of the school.

Then the director of the school welcomed our guests and then the coordinator of the program offered the gifts we prepared to our guests.

While shortly before, the videos of the students from the mobilities in Malaga and Monterotondo were shown.

In the next hour, the students presented the results of a joint research they did based on  a questionnaire created with the cooperation of all three countries with three central axes, a)the effect of the natural environment and sustainability on human psychology, b)the development of social skills and c)the strengthening of politics and professional choices. The survey was conducted on the student body of the three schools and the students presented its results for their own school. The following video presents the results of the GEL Hortiatis survey.

Then each group presented the education system of their country.

After the presentations, they were given a tour of the school and were divided into 4 groups (blue, red, green, yellow).

This was followed by a game about the countries of Europe, where the students were asked to find which countries these are, which of them belong to the European Union, and what are the goals that the European Union has set for its citizens. The responsible   teacher was Chrysoula Parousi of English literature. The game ended in a tie between two teams (blue and green)

At the same time, the teachers attended a history lesson at the 1st Lyceum of the philologist, Anna Siopi.

At 5 o'clock the Erasmus group was taught Greek traditional dances by the school's Physical Education teacher.

During the last two teaching hours of Monday in the school's IT laboratory, the students participated in a workshop entitled " Make the change ". The workshop was designed and organized by the educator Chrysoula Dritsari. The students worked in four mixed groups, on four different topics related to sustainability: energy, water, circular economy and garden.

Each group was asked to design a thorough proposal in order to positively change the situation in the school building and in the surrounding area of Lyceum Hortiatis. The 4 D design method was utilized, a problem solving model, which was first presented in detail to the students.

After discovering and defining the problem, they conducted online research and interviews with school officials   and  proceeded with specific solutions in order to forward them as a documented request to the relevant municipal authority and the local community.

At noon the students went for lunch with their families while the teachers went to a traditional tavern in the village of Hortiatis.

In the afternoon at 17.00 everyone gathered in the   school yard in order to plant aromatic plants and herbs. The activity had a lot of interest, fun, creativity and contact with nature. It should be mentioned that the preparation was done by the school's physicist Mr. Efstratios Tsakiris with a group of students.

8.15-9.00 the students worked on their homework while the teachers attended the English lesson of Chrysoula Parousis.

At 9.00 the group left for the American Agricultural School where the group was divided into two smaller ones to make it easier to follow.

The first group followed agricultural production while the second followed animal production and vice versa. During the tour of the crops, information was first given on the varieties of wine and the reason why roses are planted on the vines. The rose is a very sensitive plant. It will be the first to possibly catch a disease, so the grower will be immediately informed of what his vine is at risk of.

This was followed by the guided tour of the garden with the fruit trees... And from there the group proceeded to the olive grove.

The person in charge showed the group how big the trunk of a centuries-old olive tree is by forming a circle of 6 people with their hands. In a similar way, the students learned and formed the trunk of the largest living olive tree found in Crete.

The group then saw the vegetable crops and the special greenhouses for growing snails. The agricultural update was completed by transplanting pansies from the nursery pot to a slightly larger pot. The members of the group left the plant production with the flower they transplanted as a gift.

This was followed by the guided tour of the animal sector. First stop the calves. All members of the team before entering the area went over a special disinfectant liquid. They were then briefed on calf rearing.

Then the group entered the building where they were informed about the milk pasteurization process which they saw through the special windows for this purpose.

Next stop the chicken coop. Here the entrance was made with the special footboards. After a briefing on the hens and eggs, student volunteers entered the henhouse and collected the day's eggs, which the manager took away because they had to go for inspection before going to the market. The group left the American Agricultural College   clearly impressed with its facilities, cleanliness and educational work.

Next stop the Gerovasiliou estate in Epanomi. Under the shade of a large plane tree, the tour guide informed the group about the history of the vineyards and the outdoor sculptures.

The group then entered the building where they were informed about the white and red wine production process. This was followed by the group's visit to the dark area where the barrels are kept and next to the opener collection museum.

This was followed by lunch, a walk and relaxation on the  beach of Perea, which was also the  last stop of the day. Of course, there was no shortage of songs and dancing.

And of course there was no shortage of happy, singing birthday wishes...

Students who participated in the mobility in Malaga, Spain had a lot of fun creating a video showing their experiences.

The video is presented here.

Mobility assessment in Málaga, Spain

On November 12-17, 2023, the GEL Hortiatis visited the Ies Miguel Romero Esteo school together with the Liceo Scientifico G school Peano Monterotondo Rome Italy within the European program KA 121 for the implementation of the Job Shadowing action . According to the questionnaire filled in by the participating students, it seems that the specific visit met the expectations of the students since most of them were satisfied with all the activities.

By all accounts they were completely satisfied with the hospitality of the Spanish families. One of the strongest points of the action was the communication and interaction of the children since during the movement the foundations were laid for the creation of friendly relations.

Positive, too, was the climate of cooperation between the students since almost all the children answered that they were very to very satisfied.

In reference to improving students' digital skills, it appears that some students did not feel that commuting helped them in this area. On the contrary, for most students the program greatly improved their social and communication skills. Many actions during the program required cooperation and team spirit which bonded them even more. At the same time, they also improved the English language since it was also the main means of communication.

According to the students, the program did not greatly contribute to the improvement of Environmental awareness. Nevertheless, the children were completely satisfied with the visit to the " Caminito Del Ray " canyon, which is a unique monument of natural beauty. Also, they were very satisfied with their stay with the families as well as with the visit to the Picasso Museum .

Certainly, the general feeling was that the visit to the Malaga school was a complete success.

Job shadow mobility of students & teachers

During the week of November 13-17, 2023, the 1st job shadow mobility for students and teachers took place in Malaga, Spain, in the context of the 2nd fortnight 2023-2024 of the Accreditation 2021-2027. Five students of the 2nd Lyceum participated: Geromanolis Dimitris, Karamanis Vasilios, Kousidis Efstathios, Menelaou Georgia and Maritsa Ifigenia and three teachers: Papadopoulos Dimitrios, Dombrou Dimitra and Ioanna Karatassiou

Sunday, November 12, 2023

We started with excitement from the airportMACEDONIA of Thessaloniki, we initially flew to Dusseldorf, Germany and from there to Malaga.

We arrived early in the evening at Malaga's Costa del Sol airport, where two Spanish colleagues were waiting for us to escort us to the point where the families of the Spanish students would pick up our students.

The meeting took place at the train station and from the first moment, both the teachers and the students felt welcome and thus the ice of the first meeting was immediately broken.

The professors left our bags at the hotel,
where we met the other colleagues who participated in the program. Then we all went out together for our first night out in Malaga to get to know each other better.

Monday, November 13, 2023

The director of the school picked us up from the hotel in the morning, along with the Italian colleagues. After our arrival at IES MIGUEL ROMERO ESTEO and of course the necessary souvenir photo, we were led to the school gym, where we were welcomed with traditional Andalusian dances: castanets by a student of the school and "Sevillanas" performed by colleagues of the school!

Of course, the others were not left behind! Followed by the butcher from the Greek mission and the tarantella, from the Italian one!

Afterwards, the results of the research carried out by the students of each group in their country were presented. The subject of the research was to record the level and percentage of students' awareness of sustainability and sustainable development.

Then we offered the gifts we had brought from Greece, our director Mr. Papadopoulos thanked the hosts for the warm welcome and the Spanish colleagues also offered us their own gifts.

Our students had the opportunity, in collaboration
with their Spanish and Italian classmates, to create a corner, the ERASMUS CORNER , with images and colors each of their home country. The result was perfect and the children enjoyed the whole process.

Another activity that we really liked, especially our manager, was the creation of our personal pins , on which we could write our names or any message we wanted and of course the program logo .

We left happy, the students with their hosts, and the colleagues for a traditional, Spanish culinary experience with dishes that we admittedly liked very much!

In the evening we enjoyed a walk in the wonderful historic center of Malaga, which was already starting to put up its decorations for the Christmas holidays.

And so the first day of the program ended   , full of experiences and beautiful images that certainly predicted us   positively for the days to come!

Tuesday, November 14, 2023

Walk in the city center, next to beautiful gardens with green trees and plants and parrots constantly flying over our heads.

Through this beautiful setting and after passing the university building, we headed to the Málaga City Hall building, a true architectural gem, both outside and inside, with beautiful stained glass windows and paintings.

Visiting the Municipal Council chamber we could not resist the temptation to pretend to be the municipal councilors of the City Hall and took our seats for the "council of the Greek mission!"

On our way to Pablo Picasso 's house and museum , we passed in front of the Roman theater - by the way, in front of it is also the house of the actor Antonio Banderas .

Then we visited the square where Pablo Picasso 's house is located and where there is a statue of him, as well as the church where he was baptized.

While waiting in line to visit the museum, we were thinking how lucky we are to be able to enter a space that is dedicated to the great painter, but also to other equally great artists.

After a tour of the museum premises, our tour guide led us to an area where our students would have the unique opportunity to model their own museum space with works by famous painters, learning in this way how important a role layout and placement of works in a museum.

And of course, after such a demanding day, what could be better than a traditional Spanish meal at the famous Il Bimbi restaurant !

Wednesday, November 15, 2023

What can one say about today! We were all eagerly waiting for him to come, as we knew that we would visit the Caminito del Rey , a landscape of particular natural beauty, with rugged rocks, a gorge and a path, fortunately new and completely safe, as it was created relatively recently, to replace the old path, which admittedly takes your breath away because you realize its dangerousness!

At the entrance of the canyon we procured the appropriate equipment to be safe - helmets, which admittedly suited us very well and also matched the color of our country's flag, blue of the sky and the sea!!!

We met many groups of walkers, of all ages……we couldn't wait for the route to start, which was more than worth it!!!!! Caminito del Rey will be unforgettable!!!!!

Returning to the school grounds and having filled our minds and souls with wonderful images, a surprise awaited us... professionals of the genre, were preparing one of the traditional dishes of Spain, paella.

We helped a little too, mixing the food with the huge spoons, but quickly left it in the experienced hands of the experts and helped carry the huge container.

Also, the parents of the students had cooked traditional food, which they offered to us heartily.

But another very beautiful surprise awaited the attendees, but especially the Italian colleague Analissa who had her birthday. Driven by the initiative of Mrs. Dobru, we offered a birthday cake which was of course accompanied by the blowing out of candles and the necessary songs in the language of each mission!!!!

So our day ended with good food, perfect company, laughter and joy from all of us!

Thursday, November 16, 2023

Morning awakening and heading to Córdoba, a beautiful city in Spain that uniquely combines the magic of the east with western elements. It is located in the heart of Andalusia, a breath away from the shores of Africa and has preserved its historical influences, mainly architecturally. Cordoba was originally created by the Romans, but experienced enormous growth under Moorish rule.

The famous Guadalquivir river flows through the city, with the Roman bridge crossing over it. Its historic center has been declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.

We visited the Mezquita, a building listed – and this one – as a World Heritage Site by Unesco. It is a building of unique Islamic architecture which once functioned as a Mosque and today as a Cathedral.

It is an amalgam of Christian and Islamic culture and an architectural masterpiece of incomparable beauty. The characteristic arches (over 850) create an impressive visual effect.

We walked around the green historic center, visiting houses with indoor flower gardens, with pots hanging on the walls and lemon trees climbing the walls, which is an Arab style. We also walked through the narrow streets of the Jewish quarter and enjoyed our meal in a traditional restaurant, next to the banks of the Guadalquivir River.

Friday, November 17, 2023

…….And the last day of our visit to Malaga has arrived. In the morning we attended Latin and Spanish literature classes at the school and had the opportunity to exchange views with both our Spanish and Italian colleagues regarding teaching issues, but also the integration of the principles of the sustainable development program into the operation of the school.

Afterwards, we discussed the results of the questionnaire that the students had completed and that had been given to them to evaluate the program.

The awarding of the diplomas took place in an atmosphere of excitement and emotion, since this was the last activity that our students would carry out in collaboration with their classmates from other countries, but the same was true for us teachers.

After the award and the farewell speeches, we gathered at the ERASMUS CORNER , the corner that all the students had created together. Hugs, tears and emotion were in the air! We took the necessary photos and promised that the friendships made during the program would be maintained in the future!

Our students spent one last day with their host families and we, the teachers, enjoyed the beautiful center of Malaga for the last time.

The next day, colleagues and parents of the   students accompanied us to the train station, from where we would depart for the airport. We were particularly impressed by the emotion of the parents saying goodbye to our students, to the point that even the fathers were crying! Our children became so attached to our Spanish friends.

We flew from Malaga to Athens and from there to Thessaloniki, with little turbulence in the plane, as there were particularly strong winds in Greece.

We landed at Thessaloniki airport after midnight, where the parents of our students came to pick them up after a week of absence.
